Dan Forest Claims Victory (Again) in NC Lt. Governor's Race... Calls on Coleman to Concede
(Raleigh, NC) -- Dan Forest today claimed victory (again) in the race for Lt. Governor and called on his opponent, Linda Coleman, to concede the race. With all 100 counties having completed their post election "canvas" of all remaining provisional and absentee ballots, Forest maintained a lead of 6396 votes out of nearly 4.5 million ballots cast.
"We won on election night, and now that provisional and absentee ballots have been counted, we have won again," said Forest. With Forest's margin of victory below 10,000, his opponent is legally entitled to call for a recount, a process that will cost the State of North Carolina several million dollars and the Forest campaign several hundred thousand dollars to defend their victory.
"No statewide race in North Carolina history has been overturned by a recount, especially with a lead of this size. Putting the cards back in the machine and running the numbers again will do nothing to change the outcome of my race," said Forest. "The only reason to call for a recount now is to make my campaign raise and spend several hundred thousand dollars in legal fees and delay my being sworn into office."
